Abilene Man Arrested After Breaking Into Off-Duty Officer's Home
A 31-year-old Abilene man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly breaking into an off-duty police officer's residence and destroying property, according to the Abilene Police Department.
Anthony Schofield was taken into custody at approximately 8:59 p.m. on November 19 in the 1400 block of North Buckeye Avenue in Abilene. He faces charges of aggravated burglary, criminal threat, and criminal damage to property.
The incident began around 7:25 p.m. when a juvenile female ran to the officer's residence to report that an unknown male had broken into her family's home and was destroying property. When officers responded to the scene, they observed signs of forced entry and extensive damage throughout the interior of the residence.
Through investigative follow-up, officers identified Schofield as the suspect. Police believe he fled to the scene of a separate damage-to-property incident that occurred the same night in the 100 block of Northwest Fourteenth Street.
Schofield is also suspected in connection with that second property damage case, according to the press release from Chief of Police Jason Wilkins.
