County Approves Bed-and-Breakfast Permit and $14,875 Transfer Station Generator
The Dickinson County Commission took several actions during its regular meeting, including approving a conditional use permit for a new bed-and-breakfast and authorizing the purchase of a generator for the county's transfer station.
The commission held a public hearing and approved CUP 26-09, allowing the establishment of a bed-and-breakfast facility generally located at 768 2500 Avenue, at the request of Sunflower Property Rentals LLC. Planning and Zoning Director Tim Hamilton said the planning commission unanimously recommended approval, staff supported the request, and surrounding property owners had not objected, with some appearing in support. Hamilton said the planning commission and staff plan to review the county's list of conditional uses—last reviewed in 2008—to determine which uses, such as a single-family-home bed-and-breakfast, might be approved administratively rather than through the conditional use permit process.
The commission also approved the purchase of a 20 kW Cummins generator with a transfer switch and pad for the transfer station, awarding the $14,875 low bid to Linder Electric Inc. Officials said two other bids were approximately $17,261.38 and $19,600.
In addition, the commission adopted Resolution 073026A declaring a list of personal property as surplus, including vehicles, law enforcement equipment, a trailer, a mixer from the jail, a carpet cleaner, and a message board. County Administrator Janelle Dockendorf described the items as no longer needed for county services, noting proceeds from the sale (via Purple Wave auction) would be returned to the funds from which the items were originally purchased.
