Water Line Break Affects Abilene Neighborhood; Restoration Time Unknown

The City of Abilene Public Works Department is repairing a water line break reported on August 7, 2026. The primary impact area spans from SE 4th to SE 7th streets between Campbell and Brady. Residents in and around the affected area may experience temporary water shutoffs or pressure fluctuations during repairs. City officials said there is no estimated timeline for full restoration of service.

Once water service is restored, customers may notice air in the lines, cloudy water, or temporary discoloration. The city advises running cold water for several minutes to clear the lines and checking faucet screens and aerators for debris if low water pressure persists.

The city said it is following Kansas Department of Health and Environment guidelines to assess any potential impacts on water quality. Officials said customers will be notified immediately if a water quality concern is identified. In the meantime, residents with concerns about water quality are advised to consider using boiled or bottled water until the system stabilizes.

Residents with questions can contact the Abilene Public Works Department at 785-263-3510.
