Abilene's Japanese Sister City Presents Commemorative Crystal Gift
During the public forum portion of the Abilene City Commission meeting, Jenny Hyatt of 907 North Olive, president of the sister city board, presented a commemorative crystal gift to the city on behalf of Abilene's sister city in Japan.
Hyatt said the crystal piece was engraved with a sunflower representing Abilene and cherry blossoms representing the Japanese city, symbolizing the friendship and partnership between the two communities.
She noted that the community recently hosted four student delegates — two boys and two girls — as well as two young adult leaders from the sister city. According to Hyatt, the delegation arrived the evening of July 22 and returned home August 4.
Hyatt said the sister city relationship has brought people together through student exchanges, cultural experiences, and lasting friendships. She presented the gift to the mayor, and commissioners gathered for a photo.
