County Public Works Outlines Bridge Replacements and Fall Road Projects
Dickinson County public works staff outlined a busy fall construction and maintenance schedule, including multiple bridge and culvert projects.
Officials said they plan to cut six more roads to replace tubes under the pavement before the fall season ends and hope to build two small bridges, one on Barn Road and one on 500 Avenue, by the end of the year. The 1100 Avenue bridge was described as nearing completion, with crews pouring the deck and approach pads. The best estimate was that 1100 Avenue would reopen by the middle of September, within the contractor's timeline.
Work has also begun on the 1060/1900 Avenue truss bridge replacement, with surveyors on site and appraisers scheduled to follow. Officials said they had met with the affected property owners about acquiring land. The contractor's earliest start date is January 4 and latest is August 9, with officials predicting a March start due to extensive dirt work that they said should not be done in frozen ground. That contract was described as 240 working days for what officials called a large bridge.
Staff also reported plans for brush spraying in August, a bid for township chemicals to be issued this month, and farm chemicals expected around late October or early November. Crews were expected to begin final mowing, putting two operators on tractors for roughly eight to ten weeks.
Officials also reported purchasing a new truck locally, described as saving money compared to another vehicle they had inspected and declined after mechanics found significant issues. Surplus vehicles, described as 15 vehicles, were listed on Purple Wave auction ending September 15.
