County Reschedules November Meeting, Sets Election Canvass Date, Redirects Juvenile Detention
During commissioner reports and the meeting's agenda actions, the Dickinson County Commission addressed several administrative and public safety items.
Commissioners approved rescheduling the November 12, 2026 county commission meeting to November 13, 2026, and set a date for the general election canvass on November 12 at 9 a.m. The commission also certified the abstract of votes cast from the recent election, broken down by precinct; the motion carried, with one commissioner abstaining. County Clerk Jennifer Gaytan said the abstract would be posted on the county website.
Commissioner Ron Roller reported that the county changed its plans for housing juveniles, moving them to Johnson County rather than Ottawa County after Johnson County accepted the arrangement. He said the plan was fully arranged.
County Administrator Janelle Dockendorf reported that the county purchased about 7,400 gallons of E10 fuel, with the bid going to Petroleum Traders at $3.304 per gallon. She said the Public Works Department is installing tubes on Key Road, a Purple Wave surplus property auction is open and closes September 15, and a Planning and Zoning Board meeting was scheduled for 7 p.m. that evening. She also noted that Assistant County Administrator Marcus Rothschild's last day was the following day.
The commission also added consideration of a cereal malt beverage license to the agenda, described by staff as a final step for an on-premises license following an ownership change.
Commissioner Lynn Peterson reported on a Grow Dickinson County housing committee meeting, saying potential housing projects across the county were discussed and that announcements could come soon.
