Abilene to Receive $1.5 Million for Future Buckeye Avenue Project
The Kansas Department of Transportation has selected Abilene to receive $1.5 million through its City Connecting Link Improvement Program for a future project on K-15/Buckeye Avenue. On August 24, the Commission approved the Project Programming Request required to move the project forward.
The project will extend from the north city limits at 2400 Avenue to the south end of the I-70 underpass and include pavement replacement, curb and gutter work, and new pavement markings. The funding is part of KDOT's State Fiscal Year 2029 program.
The City will be responsible for a minimum 10% match, any costs exceeding the $1.5 million award, and all right-of-way and utility expenses. This is a future project separate from the Buckeye Avenue improvements already planned in the City's 2026 street work.
