Dickinson County Pushes Contract Extension With Republic Services on Waste Hauling
Dickinson County officials discussed a letter being sent to Republic Services requesting that the company extend its current contract for at least another year, giving the county more time to develop a plan to address the situation.
According to the discussion, county staff described difficulty getting responses from Republic Services, saying the company's office is in Kansas City and that a certified letter would be used to reach the account manager. "Since Republic took it over, I've talked to one of their customer service reps, but it's not our account manager," an official said.
Despite the communication challenges, officials indicated the service itself has been functioning as expected. "So far, so good. Everything's working the way it's supposed to, and they've not increased the price," one participant said. Officials also noted broader industry changes, referencing transfer stations and other assets that have changed hands nationally, saying "there's a lot of pieces moving for that company."
