Abilene Downtown Block Grant Not Awarded; City's $125,000 Pledge No Longer Needed

Abilene's application for a downtown revitalization block grant was not funded, tourism director Julie Roller Weeks told the Abilene City Commission on October 12, so the $125,000 the city had committed to the project is no longer needed.

Speaking during public comment, Roller Weeks thanked commissioners for the commitment. She said the application had more than 70 volunteers pledging service hours, support from all property owners, a $95,000 commitment from the Community Foundation of Dickinson County, more than 60 drawings from children and more than $2 million in matching funds from projects dating back to 2024.

Commissioners thanked Roller Weeks and Natalie Muruato for assembling the application on a short timeline.
