Delores "DeDe" Bowles

August 21, 1963 - October 11, 2026

Delores DeDe Bowles

Delores “DeDe” Bowles, of Abilene, passed away on October 11, 2026 after a battle with cancer. She was 63. DeDe was born on August 21, 1963, in Salina. She was full of life from the very start, the kind of person who never met a stranger. If you crossed paths with DeDe, you walked away feeling like you’d made a friend, because that’s exactly what happened. She wanted everyone around her to be happy, and she had a gift for making it so. Her greatest joy was always her family. Some of her happiest days were spent at Milford Lake, surrounded by her beloved lake family, soaking up the sunshine and the good company. DeDe also had a soft sport for cats, not just her own but every stray and neighborhood cat that needed a little looking after. Kindness came naturally to her, and she gave it freely to people and critters alike. A woman of faith, DeDe carried her Christian beliefs quietly through her life, trusting in God’s love and sharing that same warmth with everyone she met. DeDe is survived by her husband, Fred Barret; her sons, Nathan Smith (Kellie Smith) and Josh Smith (Rebecca Tanner) Aaron Barret; her granddaughters, Zoe Smith (Porter Hynes) and Mallory Smith; her grandson Hunter Carper; her brothers, Rodney Bowles and William Bowles; and her sister, Cassie Adcock. She is preceded by her son Jeremy Smith and her parents Lynn Bowles and Elizabeth Bowles. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor DeDe’s big heart and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Those who loved her are encouraged to remember her the way she’d want: happy, surrounded by family, and maybe keeping an eye out for a hungry neighborhood cat.

She’s in the sun, the wind, the rain,

She’s in the air you breathe with every breathe you take. She sings a song of hope and cheer there’s no more pain, no more fear. You’ll see her in the clouds above, hear her whisper words of love, you’ll be together before long until then, listen for her song.
